DATE: July 21, 2022... OCCASION: trying to cool off amid a 90-degree heat wave (Day Three of... Six?)... GLASSWARE: Abita pint... pours a lively orange amber body with teeming bubbles building a short-lived off-white head... almost crystal clear, it displays a hub of effervescent activity... like most GF beers, the head cannot retain itself... the can says strawberries, the website raspberry--I'm going with the strawberry on this one, with candied sugars, sweet millet grain and quinoa flower... botanical and alluring, this makes for a solid draw... a bit of a bite at the teeth, but it rushes to the throat with a swift, slick ease... its finish is candied, perfumed and medium-bodied--refreshing yet substantial enough to have your attention... strawberry is present in every sip, a bit like champagne with a more fortified backbone... the millet and quinoa leave a sweetness that actually meshes with the fruitiness well enough...some GF beers suffer from that strange, unnamed aftertaste that prevents the drinker from desiring the next sip--this manages to sidestep that problem with a brutish dryness... too cool that these guys collaborated with Senses Fail--the can is an inspired looker--and it works well with a sweaty night such as this... another quality GF offering--DS, keep this in the rotation!
