DATE: February 21, 2023... OCCASION: Shrove Tuesday almost in the books, and one last beer before a dry(er) forty days commence... GLASSWARE: Lindemans fluted pokal... pours a yellowish orange, bright like a mimosa, with a swiftly settling white head that beads a ring around the glass.... enough effervescence crawls up the glass to constitute a fresh, lively offering... huge citrus aroma, with pineapple, mango, orange, and grapefruit form over pine to call in a dank, alluring bomb threat... its introduction is orange juice puckerish, spry and spiteful at the teeth, with a powerful hop presence that sabre rattles... its body is more delicate, though it swiftly hums with a simmering heat at the throat, leaving an appreciably memorable fingerprint at the finish... what works about a malt-less GF offering of this magnitude is its utter disregard for balance--this is as hop-forward as it gets, kids, and without having tested it against Foundation's Epiphany, this demonstrates the full-blown tropical storm of citrus--mango, pineapple, and orange--that collides with the sprucy pine of the great Northeast... Departed Soles continues to collaborate with stud offerings (Carton, Twin Elephant) and produce gluten-free beers that exceed mere mirrors or paled comparisons... in many ways, this is a victory beyond its parts...
