DATE: April 10, 2023... OCCASION: a good day of spring break yard work ends with a beer whose seasonality may be fleeting--best to drink it now!... GLASSWARE: snifter... a noisy pour, with roiling beige bubbles dissipating to a somber halo that rings a dark-as-midnight body--intimidating as a dragon...peppery fire is tangible in the nose, as are the candied sugars and sweet buckwheat... licorice and chocolate can be noted the second time through, adding dimension to the profile... approach is smooth, dry, and kindling--heat is welcome but not officious... this is drinkable, worth slowly chewing as it coats the tongue and throat--a viscous, thick, weighty sip that comes off as a thinned cognac... chocolate, raisin, spicy pepper, licorice, cotton candy, and some sweetness make for a dessertif worth nursing... once more, God bless the DS for making GF beers of this quality and character...and high-five them for making a label as awesome as this! Home Star Runner should be proud of this rendering...
