This was the last of a bunch of beers that I picked up at Joe Canal's in Woodbridge some time ago. Haven't had anything from Departed Soles in ages and with a name like this, who here in Jersey wouldn't give it a go? There was enough to enjoy here as this was indeed dark, not terribly bitter, and easy to drink from start to finish.
Nut brown in hue and darker in the middle, this had a ton of fluffy head that was full of big bubbles and closely resembled bread as it complemented the liquid nicely. Not a strong aroma to this although there was some chocolate, dark malt, rye, and a hint of bread as the taste closely followed suit. Light Noble and floral hops, a relatively full body, and mild carbonation ensured that this would be a pretty smooth sipper without any stickiness or cloying in the back.
Just a bit of dark bread and sarsaparilla lingered once I finished this off as this was a bit tough to pinpoint when it came to a particular style. Never felt the booze in this and however old it was, it held up well as there wasn't anything printed on the bottom of the can. Had no idea this was part of a contest but in my opinion, Central Jersey *does* exist although by having this beer, I voted for the opposite!
