SouthWard pours a vibrant orange with a thin head that immediately dissipates but doesn't entirely disappear.
The aroma brings to mind clover, honey, and bread.
The flavor is very malty and brings to mind heavily diluted grain alcohol with a bit of apricot on the finish. There's a slight sweetness and no bitterness.
The mouthfeel is surprisingly heavy for a blonde ale. It brings to mind a strong barleywine, just without the barleywine taste.
I'm not sure what to make of this beer. It's malty and heavy, but not very flavorful - it's actually pretty bland. I'm happy with malty, heavy, and flavorful. I'll accept bland, light, and refreshing. But a malty, heavy, and bland combination just doesn't work.
