16 oz crowler from Chinden taproom. wanted to grab something to go, and I hadn't had this one yet. Not a huge fan of sours, but can abide the Belgian classics and some fruity ones that are more sweet than tart. This is super sour, of the Belgian variety. Opaque mahoghany pour, fizzy head. Aroma is the yeasty funk with some fruity, berry notes. Taste grabs you by the tonsils for big tartness, behind which lurk some jelly jar notes. I think there's a barrel involved somehwere in there, woody notes. Will take me a while to get this down.

a sour brown with lacto, brett, and a whole heap of raspberries, a really nice beer, more complex, wild, and mature than a lot of their other sours, the brett is a great element in it, and the fruit is juicy and ripe and takes the style to a new place, these guys are just killing it right now. a red hue to the beer, brown in color though, muted luster and not a ton of head either. aroma is killer, juicy tart raspberries make my mouth water even before the funky fermenting agents. the malt profile is great here, lots of cocoa, dry and bitter enough, some long cooked sweetness, molasses, and a lot of red fruit, currants and cherries come to mind, and of course all the juicy raspberry layers in on top of it. awesome back and forth between grain and fruit, this would be a cool beer just as a brown ale too without all the funky fermenters. the sourness is pretty high, playing up the natural tang of the berries, and the brett dries it out well, and adds just a little farmy funk element here, just a bit more interesting than most of their other sours i have had so far. i like this a lot, the raspberry is huge, comes through all the grain really well and has nice linger, very natural, just delicious. ill be a regular at barbarian if they keep it up with beers like this!
