a candy bases gose made with fruit punch juice and actual pop rocks candy. on paper its a total gimmick, i dont want any of this in my beer. in the glass, its mildly better, but still sweet and somewhat artificial tasting to me. they do float some pop rocks candy on the beer too, which dissolve pretty quick and sweeten it up even more, no doubting the authenticity of this, but my questing is why?! its very sugary, and the tartness in the beer seems to me the sweetness set in more intensely rather than counteract it at all, its all over my teeth and tongue, and i taste this way too long after i swallow it. hints of candied orange and pineapple in here, very little from the grain through all the sugar, and whatever textural thing the pop rocks are supposed to do here, they dont really seem to be doing it, like this isnt fizzing off all crazy or anything, not at all, the carbonation just seems average as well. i am sensitive to artificial color as well, and i feel like i get some of that chemical character in this. too bad because the base gose they do is very good, any salt is lost in here. i get that there is a need to be innovative to stand out from the crowd, but these guys do enough clever and high end experimental beer that this one wasnt necessary, and it was my least favorite by a mile in here during a recent session. i still love barbarian, but this one can go away and not be missed. a novelty item at best.
