Crowler from Downtown taproom. Cloudy yellow pour, fizzy head. Aroma is biscuity, crackers, touch of honey. Taste is light and bready, hint of lemon, floral notes. Very light on the palate.

nobody makes a kotbusser anymore, so i was stoked to see this on their menu, i am a huge fan of the style, and this is a nice take on it. done with honey and molasses but dry and pale, easy drinking, and quite well refined, perfect for warm weather. it smells slightly floral, dry cerealy maybe wheat based, and earthy in a unique way, lots of character but not overly malty. the yeast here seems pretty minimal too, both in the aroma and the taste, maybe loosely german, but thats not a real influential element here except to say that the yeast has dried this out nicely. its got a soft nuttiness to it, a springy blooming sort of vibe, and i can get just a trace of bitterness in the finish as well, not overly complex but well layered, drinkable, and different from just a blonde or something, nerdy but in a subtle way. these guys continue to impress me with a huge range of inspired beers both in traditional styles like this one, nearly lost to history, to super modern sours and hazy ipa types, they do it all and so much of it is fantastic. i dont go in here nearly enough but had a great time at the downtown location this weekend, crazy beer list right now!
