crazy to see this listed as retired, since it is on tap there now and taste plenty fresh in this style. listed on their menu now at 8% abv, perhaps this has been made more than once, a collaboration with mountains walking, who i guess is calling this opaque thoughts or something, its part of that series, i dont know for sure. in any event, this on on tap at barbarian downtown boise and looks headless but pale sherbet orange toned, super thick and starchy looking, on the brink of unappetizing, but the nose and taste are so pleasant, a little desserty sure, but this is good beer. some natural enough mango, not sweet nor really all that juicy, and fully compatible hops, i dont know which, but amarillo or something southern hemisphere seem apparent. some vanilla though too, lactose almost assuredly in here, and the added parts turn this down a notch for me, make it less drinkable, more following than leading, and thats not how i like to think about barbarian. that said, its downright tasty, each sip is new and poppy and yummy, and its a lot more refined than it looks or feels, if thats even possible, like the taste alone is pretty dialed. my wife pounded this, impressively fast even, i wouldnt have a second myself, but worth a drink if you are in and like this kind of thing...

16oz crowler from the brewery, poured into a snifter.

A: Absolutely beautiful fruit purée pour, opaque hazy orange, bright and inviting; minimal head and lacing.

S: Very authentic mango fruit juice on the nose. Fruity, tropical, orange and pineapple. Small & slight hints of herbal/green hops. Really no malt
Presence detectable.

T: It lives up to the nose and appearance, pulpy mango and orange and pineapple juice. At 9% abv I’m really surprised that I don’t even detect a hint of alcohol until the brew hits room temperature, and even then it’s minimal.

MF: Soft, creamy medium/full body with smooth carbonation. Low bitterness.

O: I’m impressed, this is easily the best ‘milkshake’ IPA I’ve ever had.

16 oz crowler from brewery. Thick, milky pour, looks like apricot nectar. Light fruity aroma, tropical, mangos. Lacto notes are muted in this brew, and the fruit shines through, light sweetness and a small trace of bitterness at the back. Smooth.
