Pink Lemonade Sour

they had this listed at 6% abv when i was in this weekend. a neat summer sour, very sour like a lot of their stuff, even with the added ingredients and fruity sweetness its a bit more sour than i want to drink very much of, and its a little unrefined seeming to me, not bad, summery and fun, but also kind of too much. made with strawberry, lemon, and pink lemonade mix, and it definitely hits puckery like actual lemon before the candy character kicks up. a little murky looking, not pretty rose colored like actual pink lemonade, and without much head or visible carbonation. it smells mouthwateringly sour, but with sweetness from the strawberry element too, very little grain, no hops, this is a weird one, more flavored drink than beer, maybe designed for their slushy machine or something. sharp acidity in the flavor, clean lemon but also a little artificial lemon, i think the mix is obvious and this does hit like powdered lemonade. it kind of grates my tongue and stays on the palate for a long time, like eating too many sour patch kids or something. the strawberry part is obvious and good, juicy and it extends and softens this some. i get the appeal, but this just isnt something i really want to drink, its far away from beer, and the amount of gimmicky ingredients on their beer menu these days is just mental, its all too much. one or two of these sure, but half the list is something like this. im just not even sure the base sour is that good and it seems like they use it for a ton of different additives and variants and such. it tastes like what they are going for, so i cant be too harsh on it, but this is unserious beer to say the very least...

Small snifter at GC taproom. Hazy orange pour with a ring of white head. Aroma is strawberries and lemon. Taste is tart lemon, berry accents. Dry finish.

On-tap at the brewery.

A: Chill-hazed soft red with minimal head and lace.

S: Underlying funk accompany the tartness and lactic acid, lemon...definitely sour, with an herbal note reminiscent of hibiscus.

T: Funky, tart, with pink lemonade notes throughout, as well as sugary/sour flavors reminiscent of gummy worms and pink Starburst and Sour Patch Kids.

MF: Lighter-bodied with a drying finish. Puckering.

O: Not my favorite sour from Barbarian, but nothing wrong here, and they hit the 'goal' of a pink lemonade sour I think. Decent fruited kettle sour.
