I have no idea how this beer will taste; the last two Barbarians have been awful. I am consuming the other ones, not taking any more chances. This one did not blow up on me. I poured it into tulip glass; the temperature was 46 degrees. The frothy and airy light tan two-fingered head has excellent retention. This beer might be the turning point. The slow dissipation left gobs of lacing on the glass. The color charts around SRM 22, dark brown with ruby hues. This is a beautiful beer.
Ah, yes, this has the aromas of a Scottish ale. Toffee, light beer, medium roasted malts, caramel, a hint of smoke, and some subtle floral for the nose.
The malts are on display here, toffee, caramel, and medium roasted malts. A light smoke envelops the palate, allowing subtle peat and herbal notes to intertwine. After sipping, I detect a skosh of floral, bready, and a touch of phenols. This Scotch ale is delightful.
The mouthfeel is chewy and a touch dry. A medium body, and medium-light carbonation, and pleasant finish.
I was so freaking worried my other two beers from Barbarian were going to be garbage. This beer was a lovely surprise. How can I go from the last two beers to this spark of joy? Well-made beer, I will seek this out again.
