not dissimilar from the peanut butter fragments beer these guys did years ago, a little stronger and maybe without an attempt to be an ice cream beer with the over the top lactose, this seems like less of that, but the peanut butter candy, the chocolate, and the vanilla all remain, loads of peanut butter too, i think this is slightly improved from the one called fragments, especially the aroma, its right on a reeses, which is impressive! its possible that one was trying to be butterfinger and this one is trying to be reeses, which would make sense to my senses, this really does hit that, especially in the nose, and its not as diabetic as the other one, yet with all this flavor is to me still a small doses beer, a fun one to share. they may have made this more than once too, as our can says 8.1% abv. the color is cool, its so pale, well, its reddish orange colored, but its not a stout or porter, which immediately makes it uncommon, a gold stout, cool! neat amber color to it, on the edge of unnatural with food dye from the reeses maybe? just a short head, and it dissipates out pretty fast, this is under carbonated from where it would ideally be. the nose is epic, i even get the salted aspect to the peanut butter, the roast of the nuts, the fattiness even though it still seems like the powdered stuff, and there is nice supporting milk chocolate and vanilla notes, not overdone there, true to the mission i think, some grain keeping it beery, the base recipe is a good one, and lactose doesnt take over here, appealing for sure, novelty level but exciting nevertheless. the flavor starts out just like the nose, the salted peanut butter, the roast, some caramel and toffee richness, warming vanilla, but then it goes just a touch bitter and chemical on the swallow and as it warms, and the peanut butter is less real then, and it has a less optimal aftertaste, like it comes so close to the finish line but breaks down just a bit, not a huge issue though, like this is still really desserty and good, again, its just like reeses, so yeah, good, duh. the body is lighter for what it is but more carbonation would be welcomed here. just for fun, which is what beer should be right? i used to love these guys for this sort of thing, then i lamented them for it, now i am back to admiring it, they really do this a lot better than most, even if i only want a little bit. very well executed for what it is, a step up from the fragments one from awhile ago...

Golden stout on tap in Garden City; clear gold with marginal haze and minimal head/lacing. Familiar sweet, golden malt and sugary aroma for BB white stouts, with a good dose of peanut butter character…candies and PB2 powder…nutty…caramel…bready malt sweetness…it delivers on what it says it does, not the worst dessert stout offering from BB. Not my favorite either, I would prefer a roasted chocolate malt base. Still, this isn’t harsh at all, nor is it too artificial tasting - it leans sweet instead of roasty, which is what BB is going for.
