Taster at Barbarian. Amber pour, ring of finely beaded head, solid lacing. Light toasty malt aroma, subtle. Taste is malty, soft, very mild sweetness. Light tingle at the finish. Subtle.

i love that zoigl is getting rediscovered as a thing, but its more rightly a culture or community i think than a beer style, widely permissive as a lager type might be about all the style guidelines we have for it, unless new info has recently come to light, but this is a cool thing, so decidedly anti capitalist, or i guess precapitalist, but shared and collectively owned and operated means of production, super heady! this beer is cool, probably closes to a dortmunder type on paper, although less pale, even if zoigl is actually the antithesis of export economy. this is honey colored, a malty lager with noble hops, german through and through even though its minimal on the yeast side. slightly toasty and nutty, hearty and rustic even if well refined in this instance. light fruitiness to it, cheerios, bran, almond, honey, golden raisin, subtle, grain driven, old worldy, mineral forward, mildly hoppy with an herbal note, faint astringency, good carbonation. overall the beer is cool for early spring, sort of hits like a steam beer type, maybe warmer fermented for a lager, seems historical. i like the beer, but i like the notion of zoigl and its resurgence even better. good on these guys for making this!
