really interesting beer right here, so many crazy beers all the time at barbarian. they say this is a spontaneous base, but its all acid to me, very little if any wild funk to it, seems like the bacterial element has gone insane in their vessel, but thats not really what this one is about. its got a ton of lemon juice in it, and vanilla too, and actually resembles the drink pretty well, really cool concept and execution, although way too sour to drink more than a little bit of. not a pretty beer, close to flat looking and really hazy, washed out pale yellow, dense, and sort of starchy looking. the nose is awesome, no denying its real lemon, almost like a lemon juice concentrate though, super intense and sharp, pure and clean, but potent too, strikingly so with the acidity in the base beer, a little sour double jeopardy there. there is some oak on this which brings out the vanilla, and some sweetness trying to balance it but coming up short, i can smell this from a mile away. the flavor is like the nose, lemon driven, zesty and astringent, with compatible floral vanilla and sweet oak behind it, a little wheaty grain character too trying to keep it beery. light funk as it warms i suppose but this is mostly acid. lacking carbonation but not totally still, a little heavy feeling as a result, but thats kind of how actual limoncello is, lots of body. cool flavors, not too much vanilla and not a dessert beer, authentic and clever, even if its too intense to really drink hard on. i respect this effort a lot, way cool.
