Taster flight at Barbarian GC. Pinkish pour, cloudy, small but sturdy white head. Beeries in the aroma, some of the Belgian yeast, light tartness. Taste is fruity, blacberry, tart, funky, yeasty

interesting beer, to me a bit young on the brett, slightly cheesy, like it hasnt all the way had time to do its thing, but i like it anyway, there is enough belgian character still here, the blackberry aspect is cool, and its also aged on cedar spirals, which i wish i knew when i ordered it, something was quite aromatic and distinctive about this and in my mind i chalked it up to the yeast, but it easily could have been this cedar element, uncommon and cool, this is clever even if its young still and not quite as funky as i was hoping it would be. i think the base beer is good, a little sweet but hiding its strength well and not allowing the belgian yeast esters to run away with this, its restrained and uniquely subtle, especially for these guys. some definite color from the fruit, pink stained with some head on it from the tap, some hazy, and some legs, even though i didnt find this too sweet or too full bodied. the tang from the fruit is ahead of its sweetness, which suggests real berries to me, nicely dosed and well incorporated into the base beer, they could have stopped here and had this be a success. the cedar is cool, i think it has an impact although it didnt define this for me, different than oak to be sure, ill have to revisit this with the cedar in mind. the brett is off a bit to me, its stinky and unclean, and it doesnt add the rustic funk i was hoping for, rather its sort of a generic yeast grossness, subtle, but it stands out on the finish, and i just wish it was given more time to develop itself. i could see like an amazing brett brux profile marrying the belgian yeast and the berries super well, but this profile makes it seem a little amateur, a shame. still, cool flavors with green grape and pear from the belgian strain with the tang of the blackberries, crazy that it isnt boozy either. always something unique on tap in here and i love visiting for that reason!
