not rightly a wild ale, but i didnt feel right calling it a belgian tripel, which is what the base beer is here, but then they blend it with a sour beer, pitch some brett, and add grapefruit, tangerine, and calamansi lime juice, pretty neat concept but i didnt actually end up loving this for a couple of reasons. i also didnt feel right calling it a brett beer, as the brett is subtle in this, real new, and obviously did not do the primary or the majority of the fermenting work in this. the first reason im not wild about it (no pun intended) is that a lot of the belgian identity is gone, subtle esters i suppose, but its generically sweet without being really a tripel in any way to me, and the citrus and weirdness kind of overtake that yeast aspect. i also am not in love with their base sour, which is exceedingly acidic and overtakes this a bit, its hard to hide, the sourness is so intense, and it runs through much of the nuance here. i am a bit over this base beer, however its used. i like the citrus in here, grapefruit to me in front of the others, drying and tangy. i dont really dig the brett either, its new and more sweaty and cheesy than funky and farmy, this may age favorably, but maybe the higher abv is working against the brett fully developing too, its a bit messy and back yard buckety for me. the citrus is clean though and bright, and there is some pleasant sweet booziness at play. its heavy feeling and without anywhere near enough carbonation for either a belgian style or a brett beer in my opinion, and its a bunch of elements that dont fully come together right in my opinion. as ambitious as it is, its just not that great.
