500ml bottle, the first anniversary ale for this very active brewery from Lacombe, in that short time. A self-described 'Belgian Golden Strong Ale'.
This beer pours a slightly hazy, pale golden yellow colour, with a near-teeming tower of puffy, loosely foamy, and certainly fizzy bone-white head, which leaves a bit of sudsy cannonball splash lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.
It smells of grainy and doughy pale malt, rather dry lemon and underripe orange citrus rind, white saltine crackers, some ethereal light peach/apricot fruitiness, subtle old-world yeast, and very gentle leafy, weedy, and faintly perfumed floral hop bitters. The taste is gritty and crackery pale malt, a miserly caramel sweetness, some mixed citrus, pome, and tropical stone fruitiness, ascendant Low Countries yeast, and a decent leafy, piney, and floral hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly robust in its sassy and gassy frothiness, the body an adequate medium weight, and mostly smooth, as the yeast and the so far sneaky as sin booziness start to create a few hairline cracks in the matrix. It finishes off-dry, the malt keepin' 'er steady, while the Amarillo hops continue to pump out sexy ester after motherflippin' ester.
Overall, this is a rather enjoyable ode to this operation's first year in business. The typical gifts are paper or a clock, which aren't obvious when one is kicking back and putting back this offering, but I suppose that both of those things were instrumental in the production of Blindman's many fine brews over the past 12 months, so I virtually proffer them, as such.
