16 ounce single can from the brewery in Lacombe. Appreciate that they will sell items as singles!
Pours a very dark brown, clear from all appearances, verges to black - three fingers of tight puffy dark tan to mocha head.
Aroma from the outset is of roasted clean malt, chocolate, coffee, and notes of molasses. Hints of berry and dark fruit with an oaky and earthy and slightly smoky aroma.
Taste follows the nose with roasted dark malt, burnt caramel, chocolate, and coffee - soft fruity flavours and again some earthy and oaky bitterness with that gentle background smokiness.
Smooth light end of medium mouthfeel with modest carbonation giving an almost creamy sensation - roasty and malty and very drinkable.

A- Pours a mainly clear looking dark brown, with reddish hues hiding in the background. The head is light caramel in color and shows off fairly dense, with the wee tight bubbles retaining quite well before settling down to a solid half finger in thickness. I cannot see the carbonation really and the lacing is quite impressive, with plenty of sticky protein laced shapes clinging to the inside of the glass.
S- This is a relatively clean smelling brew, with sweet barley malt aromas upfront.....caramel/toffee/blackstrap molasses noted....cooked brown sugars, some vanilla bean roundness and a finish that is clean, of some dark roast coffee bean and cocoa powder, leafy green hop cone bitterness and some dry Earth.
T- The flavors follow suit to the aromas, with sweeter sugary flavors that border burnt brown sugar ends, dark toffee robustness, vanilla bean softness, dark chocolate nuance, dark roast coffee bean richness and a dry grainy Earth finish with nuances of bittering hop cone...fresh I might add.
M/O- Light bodied and with plenty of carbonation, this is a very easy drinking dark lager! Plenty of flavor to go around, I find it well balanced between quenching and robust flavors, enticing me to enjoy at least a couple of these in a sitting. The alcohol is well hidden too, and would provide a nice accompaniment to a burger/fries kind of meal, and could also provide a little body to a stew or beef barley soup. Overall a decent lager and I recommend it!
