This brew packs a bear hug of maltiness with intense notes of fine roasted coffee, dark chocolate, molasses and cacao, yet with a lingering sweetness and hints of raisin and plum that round out the malt character. Moderate hop additions provide a floral, herbal, and earthy counterpart to the malt in both flavour and aroma. All this topped with peach and dried fruit esters combine to make this a full-bodied yet extremely drinkable porter.

L: Pours a slightly murky thick brown, with a creamy medium tan head and several thick rings of lacing around the glass.
S: Roasted malt and smoke, some wild berries, a bit of pine, and a somewhat strong mineral note.
T: Roasted malt, some smoke, bittersweet chocolate, some berries and some pine.
F: Heavy body, creamy smooth and thick.
O: This beer reminds me of a hike in the forest and camping, highly recommended.

473ml can poured into Sam Adams pint glass.
Pours nearly black with root beer highlights when held to the light. Half a finger of brown sugar head that leaves splashing sea foam lace as it recedes.
Smells of coffee milkshake, chocolate chip cookie, roasted caramel malt, and mild herbal hops.
Tastes of bittersweet cocoa powder, creamy coffee, soft licorice, singed caramel and more gentle leafy hops.
Feels soft and silky. Medium bodied with velvety carbonation. Finishes dry.
Verdict: Highly recommended. Tasty and very drinkable.

First off, love the colour. Beautiful, deep chestnut appearance with a bubbly tan head. Very coffee forward fresh, but as it ages some dark fruit and nutty flavours become more pronounced. Awesome porter!

This was a very welcome addition to the taps at the Hop In in Calgary.
Deep deep brown, almost stoutlike in appearance, with a brownish head and coffee notes on the aroma, you can't tell it from a stout, really.
Except for the alcohol level, and maybe the mouthfeel.
Nutty, chocolate & coffee, sweet and delicious. An excellent pint. I look forward to more from this brewer.

16oz glass at the Underground, nice to see this west Yellowhead brewery getting its presence into the better taps around the city.
This beer appears a clear (I think), very dark cola highlighted brown colour, with an ethereally thin cap of wispy beige head, which leaves a few isolated specks of remote islet lace around the glass as things quickly subside.
It smells of well-roasted caramel malt, biscuity toffee, free-range wet ash, sugary black licorice, cafe-au-lait, and more saccharine citrus fruit notes. The taste is milk chocolate powder, lightly toasted caramel/toffee malt, a testy black orchard fruitiness, slightly sour lactose, mixed citrus and pine hop bittering agents, and some subtle earthy anise candy essence.
The carbonation is quite low-key and hard to get a handle on via the ol' froth-o-meter, the body an adequate middleweight, and smooth, I suppose, as the inherent char isn't pervasive enough to cause all that much trouble here. It finishes off-dry, with a combination of thin caramelized cocoa and neutered dark fruitiness lingering.
Overall, this comes across as kind of timid for a porter, yet rather drinkable by the same sword, which I would imagine is way more important to this burgeoning brewing concern. Or maybe I'm just emotionally swashbuckled by any reference to their part of the world right now.
