Formerly Known As: Apex Predator Red Ale
Best enjoyed with your pack, this red ale is a northern predator in its most graceful form. The intricate malt flavours are contrasted with a variety of new world hops. The result - rich toffee, dried plum and spicy, earthy rye malt flavours combine with juicy orange, passion fruit, geranium and stone fruit hop character to create a truly unique pint.

16 ounce can - canned 3 weeks ago.
Pours a clear deep reddish amber with teaming 3 fingers of creamy khaki head; nice lacing.
Aroma malty, spicy rye, citrus, hints of pine resin.
Taste starts malty, slightly bready - rye note followed by grapefruit pith, notes of dark fruit and a floral hoppy bitterness at the back. Initial sweetness is really nice, that then fades on swallow to a pleasant bitter.
Medium full mouthfeel - average carbonation - bittersweetness with slightly floral spicy hop lingering.
Not enough red IPAs!

This is one of my Favorite Beers, and on tap right now at Southgate Wine and Beyond. well put together and a robust head, not a long lingering foam, and a great color, spicy rye malt and just all around delicious.

Appearance - Pours a cloudy copper/burnt orange with three fingers of frothy tan head.
Smell - Citrus and earthy hops, caramel, spicy rye malts, dark fruit (plum, raisin), orange peel.
Taste - Spicy rye malts and citrus/earthy hops kick it off, followed up by the sweetness of rich caramel and vibrant fruit flavours (both dark and citrus fruits). Moderate level of bitterness. Aftertaste is predominantly the rye malts and some hops.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Some stickiness left on the palate.
Overall - A beautiful marriage of an IPA with the addition of rye malts. Nice touch with the dark fruit elements. A great fall brew.

473ml can. I guess the name says it all - an IPA brewed with red rye malt. Or is it a Red IPA brewed with rye malt?
This beer pours a murky, medium chestnut brown colour, with three fingers of puffy, rocky, and somewhat bubbly tan head, which leaves some decent frilly curtain lace around the glass as it gently subsides.
It smells of gritty and grainy caramel malt, a lesser spicy rye cereal character, some oily bar-top nuttiness, muddled domestic citrus rind, an ethereal earthy yeastiness, and some musty, floral, and piney green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, still understated grainy rye notes, pithy nuts, some plain orange and lemon citrus peel astringencies, a faint wet ashiness, and more floral, leafy, and piney verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is average in its merely load-bearing frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and mostly smooth, with just a wee mixed hop bitterness taking things down a peg or so here. It finishes off-dry, the rye and caramel still going concerns, while the other flavours fade to black.
Overall, this is one complex (some might say complicated) offering, which displays a heady hoppiness that is well offset by the embiggened malt measures. Interesting to try, for sure, but I like my IPAs a whole hell of a lot more crisp and refreshing in their manner of being.
