Want the world? Want the whole world? Well, lock it all up in your pocket. It’s your bar of chocolate! This salted brownie oatmeal stout uses lots of flaked oats with only the finest quality English caramel malts for brownie-like sweetness. MMMMMM, it’s so good you’ll want another one! RIGHT NOW! You could put it in the county fair! Our Oompa Loompas crack cacao by hand to exaggerate the chocolatey character. How else are you supposed to crack cacao? Here’s the best part: a finely calculated addition of salt gives it a real golden ticket…of flavour! GIVE IT TO ME NOW!

Very dark brown chocolate in color that poured with three fingers of dense, dark brown head that has a moderate retention to it that leaves a nice ring of lace around the glass.

Sweet dark and malty aroma to it with a good amount of molasses and faint hints of raisins and vanilla.

Dark malt flavor forward with a strong coffee note to it and a surprisingly mild sweetness.

Full-bodied, almost heavy malt base with a solidly bittersweet cacao nib flavor on the back end that leans a bit more towards the bitter side and grows in its presence as the beer warm to room temp.

Finishes with a faint saline hint, not so much salty, but I think that it combines with the caramel and cacao flavor to give the finish a sorghum syrup quality to it, that leaves a slightly sour lingering raisin note on the aftertaste.

473ml can - the second in the 'Villainous Series'. Huh, having never read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I thought Veruca Salt was just a 1990s rock band.

This beer pours a solid black, with scant amber basal edges, and three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat fizzy brown head, which leaves a bit of coral reef lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of roasted caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, a further cereal graininess, saltwater taffy, some minor dark orchard fruitiness, and very subtle earthy, leafy, and floral noble hops. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, white saltine crackers, some free-range ashiness, grainy breakfast cereal, dark chocolate, ephemeral bruised fruity notes, and more understated leafy, herbal, and musty hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly benign in its bored-seeming frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth, with maybe a touch of pithy char getting all up in my grill. It finishes trending dry, the roasted character completing its low-key hostile takeover.

Overall - this is a pleasant enough oatmeal stout, but the salted brownie part of the equation is tenuous at best. Easy to drink, and interesting, sure, as clever pop culture references are always all right by this camper.
