a very light and mild american brown ale with house toasted hazelnuts. i was so excited to try this, as nuts in beer has been a recent muse for me. i think the brown ale is pretty tasty, basic as it is, a nice even reddish brown hue to it, a lazy bubbly head, and a fine shine. aroma of light roasted malts, dry cocoa powder from the chocolate malt, and an ever so slight breadiness, balanced and delicate but pretty good. i wish it had more hazelnut to it though, whats there is delicious and fully congruent with the malts, but i think its a little too understated. i want more! i get the toasted nature of it, even a little fleshy thing happening that sort of makes up for the on the edge of too light body that this has, but i really dont taste the nuts as much as i would like to, and it seems like a void towards the finish, like waiting a little too long for something that is never going to come. the beer is smooth and flavorful though, and i like the bit of sweetness to it, sort of a maple note, and as a brown, even with the thin body, its nice. more of the special ingredient would be appealing to me here, but i still thought this was one of the better beers we had on our visit to harmonic.
