the house brew in here, an old fashioned inspired pale ale, and while i thought the cocktail elements were a little weak in here, the overall beer is very good, probably the best or one of the best that we had in here. i dont know if they actually put bitters and citrus and such in here or not, or if they just cultivate those flavors with hops, but both of those aspects are a little underdeveloped for me, and after having some amazing old fashioned beers this year (brooklyn, wicked weed, pure project to nae a few), this seems really lackluster in that regard, the whiskey element is missing entirely, but its got a deep rye malt base, and is a lot easier drinking than any of the aforementioned beers with the same idea, so i like it a lot for that. it looks just short of brown in the glass, deep garnet red, dark for a pale ale, but thats what they say it is. the rye malt is sort of richer than usual, and while it does have that dry earthiness to it thats common in the pale rye, there is also a more caramelized, baked, wintery type rye complexion here that helps push it more toward that cocktail realm, burnt sugar, light cherry note, and some nice hoppy bitterness to finish. this was a bit under carbonated, which was true of most of the beer in here, but this is one of the more unique and well executed beers we had on our visit, and while its not as close to the cocktail as some others, its a fun and interesting beer to sip on.
