Our annual Holiday ale is a wonderfully layered barley wine, brewed with local Admiral malt and bittered with EKG hops. Aged for a year in rye whiskey barrels from Spirit Works Distillery, each sip imparts a new flavor, from caramel and toffee to oaky whiskey and even coconut. Tis the Season to enjoy big beers with family & friends.

Pours a very dark burgundy-black that glows burgundy-brown when held against a flashlight. There is a heavy fog to the transparency. Head is two fingers of khaki foam. Aroma is caramel, fig, raisins, and toffee. Resiny, grassy, and herbal hops add a thick layer of stickiness to the mid-section. Dark bready, and toasty malts adorn the back, alongside whiskey and barrel. That sticky hop quality really knocks off the balance of the mid-section, lingering through the finish. Flavor profile is fig, raisins, toffee, and toasty, nutty, and caramely malts. There is a heavy earthy and iron quality to the backside, drying out the initial sugary notes, and breaking up the flow from start to stop. Finish leans into whiskey and barrel with iron heavy notes lingering through. Heavy sticky resiny, and herbal hops adorn the back half of the flavor profile, interrupting the dynamic flow of the beer to provide a heavy sticky texture mid-sip. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a boiled over-medium texture. There is a very light bubbly, gritty start to the texture that stills out at the finish. Overall, some solid barleywine notes intermingled, but it lacks fluidity from start to finish, at least to be super smooth. It's hop heavy, especially right at the finish.

Served in a 15.5oz Spiegelau tulip from a 500mL bottle.
