From notes I discovered a month later, having thought I had lost them as I left my last Wetherspoons of their autumn real ale festival.

A: Copper to brick red colour; slightly offwhite head (bigger than the usual 'spoons head).

S: Struggling to come up with anything here - a slight astringency and a hint of wholemeal bread.

T: Initial acidic tang giving way to interplay between slightly smoky malt and oddly savoury lemony hops. No grapefruit (as was advertised), not like an IPA (as was advertised), but quite interesting all the same. Quite slow going, rather a sipper and thus not a session beer (as was advertised).

A decent brew, but not as advertised!

(Notes of 20/10/2013) Enjoyed a pint of Even Keel Session IPA brewed by Ballast Point @ Marston's, at my local Wetherspoon pub during the chain’s beer festival this month.
Deep-red copper, this fruit-ester rich & lightly sulphuric Premium Bitter has very little in relation to that BIG word, IPA~ Rather, it's stonefruit-focused with a good crystal&pale malt-lead backbone, leaving a mildly chewy & rough citric hop bitterness to linger with rather acute acidity & roast malt aroma @ finish.
So many interesting hops are used during the brewing process: Ahtanum, Cascade, Cluster, CTZ, Perle, Spalt... Just wondering why using so many varieties? For, really nothing stands out & the mixture is not particularly distinctive.

According to the official blurp:

The brew crew from Ballast Point has returned to brew another beer, especially for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival (Autumn 2013), at Marston’s Brewery, in Staffordshire. With a pale copper hue and an IPA-inspired aroma, this has hints of lemon and grapefruit, a silky malt backbone and a bright hop flavour, resulting in a complex (yet drinkable) character. Hops used: Ahtanum, Cascade, Cluster, CTZ, Perle, Spalt.

I had a hand-pulled half-pint in the William Withering, Wellington on 18th Oct 2013.

Pale amber/copper in colour, next to no head.

Expected more to be honest: this had a mild malt and fruity nose with a little floral note as it warmed in the glass.

The taste was fairly bland with no strong or noticeable flavours worth mentioning. There was a slight citrus feel to the taste, but it was either too subtle and delicate for my palate, or it was just weak throughout.
