A 500ml bottle with a BB of July 2018. Purchased recently from ALDI. Described on the label as a cherry stout with hints of chocolate malt and Black Forest gateau.
A: Poured into a pint mug. A very dark brown colour that appears black in the glass. Forms a large head of creamy tan foam that persists for a few minutes before settling as a thick surface layer.
S: Aroma of sweet cherry juice with hints of roasted malt, subtle chocolate, a touch of molasses, ale yeast and mild stewed hops. Pretty good, though the cherry does seem rather artificial.
T: Tastes of fruity cherry with notes of roasted grain, dark malt, faint bitter chocolate, stewed hops, ale yeast and a hint of wet cardboard. The cherry has a cloying synthetic quality. A rather harsh bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with spritzy carbonation and a thin, insubstantial body for the style. Somewhat astringent, followed by an aftertaste of cherry juice, bitter roasted malt, acrid stewed leaves and faint ale yeast.
O: An interesting idea marred by poor execution. Looks superb, while the aroma is a satisfying blend of intense cherry and dark malt notes. However the flavour is less pleasant - bitter and harsh, while the body is watery and acetic. I suspect the cherry flavouring might be partly to blame. OK but not brilliant; no need to seek it out.

Bottle. Extremely dark auburn. A tan head which gradually subsides to a wispy layer and then disappears.
Sweet dark chocolate aroma with the cherry discerned. Quite muted.
The flavour opens up on tasting. Over done toast is added and the cherry is enhanced.
Soft carbonation and full bodied.
Unexpectedly good for a Marston's brew although the cherry seemed a little artificial.
