Cask in London:
Pours mahogany/ruby with a white head that leaves lacing.
The smell is of caramel, bread, some cinnamon spicing and cherry.
The taste is bready with caramel/toffee with cherry fruitiness and a bit of roast and cinnamon spiciness. Finishes with a woody dryness.
A very nice example of a darker English bitter. Of the few Marston's I've had I do like their "house character", and that might add in to my enjoyment of this one. It does have a slightly darker, spicier, though with a firm malt, touch to it than the typical bitter, which gives it a unique flair. Nicely balanced. This is nice and I could drink it "all day long"!

Tasted by half-pint at my local JDW pub, the Half Moon, East End London. It seems to be yet another seasonal special for the St. George's Day.
A: bright, reddish brown colour, like dragon's blood; coming with a beige-hued creamy head, dissipating slowly and leaving very tight lacing... invisible carbonation.
S: traditional combo on the nose for an English bitter--light caramel maltiness, apple-ish and citrus Goldings, followed by hop resins piercing through the foam and a deeper layer of earthy note sustaining beautifully at the back.
T: deep and sour-sweet fruity upfront, reminiscent of rotten apples and ripe berries... plus a bitter-ish edge of toffee malts and a profound black-tea like hoppy bitterness in the background; lingering fruity hops on the sides of the tongue, just lively...
M&D: refreshingly soft on the texture vis-a-vis a medium-flavoured profile, this medium-bodied best bitter on form surely is nicely balanced and quaffable. Not bad at all~~
