a really excellent brown, but there is really no comparison to the coffee edition, which was on the edge of life changing, and one of the best beers ive ever had visiting a new brewery like these guys, open just a few months. crazy how good that thing is! this is its base beer, and its a big sturdy brown that borrows from the porter style a little bit of a darker roasted malt, but still has that sweet cocoa and caramel malt complexion going on the in center of it all. a little sweet in the flavor for me, maybe too much brown sugar flavor happening there for me, but it resolves really well. i get an almost oak chip rested vanilla mellowness moving toward the finish, and its fabulous. lots of body but this one lags behind on the carbonation a little bit. as good as this is, and it is really really good, the coffee takes it to a very special place, and as soon as i tasted that one, this one became somehow inadequate. i know thats not cool or fair, but thats what happened. definitely try this one first, you will surely dig it if you like a good strong brown!
