Pours a cloudy, dark amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of doughy, slightly grainy and caramelly malt and grassy hops. Taste is an excellent balance of doughy, slightly grainy and caramelly malt and grassy, slightly floral and resinous hops, with just a hint of black pepper and pine coming through as well. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some grainy malt, grassy hops and black pepper lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a light/medium body and medium carbonation.
This wasn't quite what I expected, but in a very good way. While it's quite difficult for me to comparatively rate this to style, seeing as it's my first ever Pale Mild Ale, I thought that it was impressively flavourfull and full-bodied for such a low-ABV brew, with a great balance of grainy, slightly sweet'ish malt and grassy, mildly bitter hops, with the hints of pine and peppery spice from the rye malt adding a bit of a welcome punch to this. Overall, this makes for an enjoyable, easy-drinking Mild that's surprisingly flavorful, with a firm malt base and distinct hoppy accents, while the body is particularly impressive for such a light beer.
