Blind-tasted.
L- Rested and chilled, despite which it was very nearly a gusher - a bad way to acquaint oneself with a new beer. You might want to open this one very slowly and right by your glass, watching the foam level in the neck as you do so. -- I poured an intial pint glass full, which was 90% foam - hmmm. Eventually decant it, just over 1/2 pint remaining, murky dark brown beer and 5Cm mid-tan foam cap on top.
S- Woody, rather rustic. Hard to get a better read through a fat head of foam.
T- Malty on the front, full on blunt ABV%, as in reflexively head-shaking blunt. Into notably bitter finish. It's a pungent brew. More of a winter time slow-sipper beer. I'm wondering if it's liquor barrel aged to get the blunt ABV% hit on the palate though I don't discern a specific liquor barrel note.
F- Super-high CO2 in the mouth, like having popping-candy on the tongue. Big, pungent and deep.
O- Somewhat let down by being a potential gusher and hard to decant and have settle. The ABV% is rather shouty too. Apart from that it's very pleasant. Top-tip plan to allow 3mins for super-slow de-capping and decant.
Bought from Trembling Madness, York for home delivery. 330ml bottle BBE1: 3/2036, gyle #338P. 'Contains sugar' presumably the cause of the excess CO2?
p.s. 'Non-Trappist quad' marked on lable - hehehe....
