Bevis Maun is drinking a Dogs of War: Battalion Bull Terrier 2023 by Torrside Brewing

Bottled in a big bomber dark glass bottle which was bottled. Aroma is dark sherry and real vanilla. Flavour is liquorice root and big dark vanilla. Full bodied totally. Big in all fronts. Big. Bigger.

Thanks EmpBevis for adding this beer for me to post the 1st review, much appreciated ;;)
Very impressive front lable art, this one a superbly executed painting featuring a bull terrier in early 1800s era scarlet Guards-like [?] dress uniform.
L- Cap pops with no whisper at all. Pours looking like almost fully flat cola. I appreciate that higher ABV% beers and barley wines especially do seem rather prone to lack of CO2.
S- I could smell the rum in it from a foot or two away, the moment I popped the cap. That seems to dominate all else.
T- 1st sip of beer today, and, **BOOF!!** RUM comes out firing on both barrels, into a moderately sour deep roasty rich dark fruits aspect with ABV% showing a leg plus oaky timber notes into the finish.
F- 1st up, it seems to effectively be flat, I get no CO2 in the mouth. Fortunately the ^sour note provides some zing on the palate. It's darm impactful, a 750ml bottle could happily be shared as this thumper can only be slow-sipped and if it warms too much this manicured pooch of a beer might begin to reveal feral tendancies.
O- It's flat and the principle aspect is a huge slug of rum; that might be your cup of tea. I'm not that experienced with barley wine but the lack of CO2 seems something of a feature encountered with them. Fascinating to try, but perhaps not enough that's engaging to buy again, if indeed it were ever brewed again!
Bought from Trembling Madness, York. 750ml bottle BBE: 21/04/2030 £12.50
Hand numbered in blue pen, below the ABV%, as per the photo above, '16/100'.
