Uppercase Poems is our double barrel-aged barleywine fermented with our mixed culture of wild yeast and bacteria. Created with an immense amount of English caramel malts and a touch of chocolate malt, this beer is full bodied and silky smooth with a hint of tartness.

This version of Uppercase Poems was first aged in a heavy char American Oak cask before finishing in an Italian Marsala wine barrel. The Italian Marsala barrel amplifies the dark fruit notes contributed by our yeast while lending vinous notes. This wine-like beer has very little to no carbonation.

Very low carbonation: almost no head atop a nutty dark brown, almost purplish body.

Musty aroma: a strong mix on the nose of wine, oak, funk, caramel grain, and earthy hops. Pine, brown sugar, nuts, plums, raisins. Mildly sour with light tannins.

Sweet and a touch fruity up front, with building sourness. Ostensibly a barleywine, the malt is expressed mostly through caramel grains, brown sugar, and the high ABV. It’s otherwise a silky smooth American sour, with plums, grapes, red wine, and tons of oak.

Very low carbonation, some back end heat, but incredibly drinkable. Long sticky finish.

This is a really impressive beer. The EBW base for an American sour is a creative and unique choice. This is a beer that likely ages well.

On tap at the brewery. Deep brown and murky. Smells of Marsala wine and red wine acidity. Lots of caramel and brown sugar. Tastes of red wine sourness. Dark fruits and a distinct Marsala wine flavor. A touch or Brett earthiness. Heavy with low carbonation. Most sour of the bunch, but a little less interesting.
