Inspired by the great American novelist and the cocktail that shares his name, this beer started as a blend of our golden wild ale with a touch of our Lambic-inspired spontaneous beer. The spontaneous beer provides a sense of terroir and an additional layer of yeast complexity, with the golden wild ale delivering our signature funk and refreshing acidity. After blending, we refermented with blue Juniper berries and lemons. Juniper adds resinous notes of herbaceous spice and pine with underlying citrus while the lemon complements the acidity produced by our mixed culture.

750 mL bottle. Pours clear golden. Smells of bright citrus acidity, herbal and medicinal notes of juniper, and lots of oak. Tastes of lemon lime sourness, oak, juniper, wheat graininess, and a chewy citrus back end. Lingering oak flavor. Medium body and fairly sour, but still quite drinkable. The lemons and juniper are a bold addition, but the lemons don't seem to make it too sour and the juniper is tempered enough that it could momentarily be mistaken for hops (until the medicinal quality kicks in). Nice.

This one pours a hazy golden yellow color, with a small fluffy head, and lots of lacing.
This smells kind of funky gin botanicals, oak, white wine, lemon and lime candy, herbal funk, etc.
This is pretty nice stuff. It feels kind of like funky lemon/lime soda, with some wine-like notes, oak, and lots of citrusy funk.
This is light bodied, clean, and not super acidic, with a good drinkability to it.
Odd Breed doesn't really get the credit they deserve. They make awesome beers.
