This hoppy beer was brewed to be our version of a wild, sour, and of course barrel-aged New England Pale Ale. Imported Pilsner, malted wheat, and flaked oats allow the hops to shine while yielding a medium body and smooth mouthfeel. Hopped intensely with Mosaic hops in the kettle, and aged in our French Oak puncheons for 12 months before dry hopping with whole leaf Amarillo and Ekuanot. Complex and aromatic with tropical notes of ripe papaya, mango, sour melon, and apricots. Drink fresh for a hoppier experience, or age for up to 5 years to allow the Brett funk to intensify and meld with the fruity and tropical hops.

500 mL bottle. Bottle starts to foam as soon as I open it. Pours hazy orange, but not terrifically foamy. Smells of lemon acidity, strong grassy hops, some garlic hops, and brett. Tastes of lime tartness up front, some doughy pale malt, sour citrus, and earthy brett notes. Oak is light for Odd Breed, but the finish has a lingering woody flavor. Surprisingly soft carbonation, considering the foamy bottle. Chewy body. I was hoping for something less sour when I read about this. It's good, but the tartness seems to be the dominant flavor. It doesn't let the malt profile or hops come through quite as much.

A wild pale ale? Very curious what this will be like. Clear golden body with a foamy white head that dies down into a white collar and surface islands. Smell gives the best of both world in this hybrid style beer: leafy and pale hops with sugar citrus, sour pineapple, fresh nectarine, and that wonderfully expressive french oak backing. Taste starts sour with all the fruit from the nose plus huge grapefruit and mango, then sharp botanical hops crash in, raining down medicinal herbs and super acidic and sharp citrus. It is indeed odd, a little harsh feeling between the hops and acidity, bright body otherwise, actually would like a touch more oak in the texture to help mellow. Fun, a curiosity of a beer
