We made this Rye Golden Ale with our friends at The Tank in Miami. We started with a grist of imported Pilsner malt and rye, and fermented with The Tank’s Saison yeast before aging in French Oak barrels with our house mixed culture for 14 months. This beer is fruity and tropical with notes of spicy rye, French oak tannins, and a dry, tart finish.

750ml bottle, dated 07.16.2019, poured into a stemless wine glass. Enjoyed on 05.27.2025, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a nice golden straw color, lemon hues, very clear with a fizzy white head, soapy with minimal retention and no lacing. The aroma is great, lots of funk, dry leaves, earthy, fruity with white grape and citrus, pale grain, soft oak, and herbal tea. The flavors are excellent, white grape, vinous, citrus and bright stone fruits, candied hop, chewy oak, soft tannins, wildflower, pale grain with some rye spice and a nice earthy funkiness that lingers. The mouthfeel is coating, zippy and crisp, medium body with a tart and dry finish.

Verdict: A really nice wild ale from Odd Breed. The rye really offers some nice complexity and the barrel character is wonderful, very gueuze like.

750 mL bottle. Clear golden with a brief white head. Smells of strong oak, light stone fruit acidity, dried grass. Very nice. Tastes of soft fruity acidity, light white wine notes, oak, dried grass in the finish. Light rye spice in the back end as it warms up. Medium body and very drinkable. Excellent. Not a lot of beers like this out there these days.
