This beer was brewed in collaboration with our friend Germán at Cervecería Granizo in Chile. We started with a blend of pale wild ales aged 16 months in French oak barrels. Germán brought over a fresh batch of Merkén, which is a traditional Chilean blend of smoked chilis with a touch of coriander and salt. Merkén adds citrusy and earthy aromatics with a touch of spicy and smoky heat on the palate. The addition of Belgian candi sugar at bottling lends a beautiful reddish hue with notes of dried apricots, cranberries, and dates, while our mixed culture delivers a touch of refreshing acidity and Brett funk.

6 oz draft pour at Lures Bar & Grille. Pours a light yellow color with a small off-white head. Aroma and flavor feature moderately acidic blonde ale. Touch of oak, touch of citrus, possibly stone fruit, hint of chili heat (subtle), no smoke that I could find, and just a hint of spice/coriander. Dry, not sweet; no dried fruit/date. Not much funk at all. Mouthfeel is on the thin side. Overall, this beer was advertised to have a LOT going on and I was looking forward to seeing how well it all worked together; unfortunately, some of the components seemed to be missing entirely and most of the rest was very understated. It's not a bad beer, but it falls well short of what was promised.
