A massive, billowing Duvel-esque head takes form quickly and goes nowhere fast. Chunks of lace are left on all sides of the glass. Its body is a hazy mahogany with aggressive streams of carbonation running through it.
It's chalky and dusty on the first impression. Candied dark fruits and red cherries flesh out its sweet side. There's more stick and more raisins and figs as the nose opens up.
A bigger punch of booze comes with mashed cherries and ripe plum by its side. It gradually dries out as it nears the finish. I get a metallic twang from beginning to end. It's layered behind its sweet ethanol character and becomes more pronounced as it warms.
As good Belgian's do, its booziness runs its course alongside sweet dark fruits. It's integrated into the beer as opposed to standing on its own. Full bodied with a bit of slickness and a fully attenuated dryness in the finish.
Tooth & Nail is my favorite brewery coming out of Ottawa. I wanted to love this but couldn't get over its yeast forward aroma and metallic flavor.

Can: Poured a clear amber color ale with a nice off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt with light dry fruit notes with some bready yeast notes. Taste is a mix of caramelized malt notes with some light dry fruits, bready and fruity yeast with limited amount of residual sugar notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and no overly apparent alcohol notes. Enjoyable Belgian ale with less residual sugar then I was expecting.

Pours a very nice mahogany brown with about a finger and a half of head which breaks quickly leaving very little behind in the way of lacing. Aroma is that of a dubbel, yeast, dark fruits such as raisin and fig and winter spices. Taste carries the aroma forward, with a definite booze presence. Feel is almost astringent and this takes away from the enjoyment. Definitely what one would call a dry finish.
All in all a nice beer, but it could be a touch less boozy. You definitely notice the 10% on this one. Still a nice winter beer.
