Consumed 04/21/08.
Almost black, this liquid gives up a few deep mahogany highlights when held to a strong light. Almost no head - just a few stray brown bubbles.
Aroma is roasted and malty with some smoke.
Flavor is intense and comes on like gangbusters with the first sip. Strong, robust coffee flavor up front, fully supported with deeply roasted dark malt. Some furtive sweetness before a huge bitter finish with some astringency that helps cut the slightly syrupy consistency of this brew. Plenty of alcohol in flavor, warmth in finish. Even some vapors!
I wondered if someone had slipped some Kahlua into my beer at first.
Impressive, but not really fun to drink.

On-tap at the NBBC,
A: Pours a dark mahogany brown, with a small tan head, and virulent lacing.
S: Big coffee notes, roaste malts.
T: Heavy coffee, mocha, capuccino, roasted malts and dark bakers' chocolate all come together to make a flavour, does remind me a lot of Speedway, even if it doesn't have the exact finesse of that beer, very tasty.
M: Thick, creamy, viscous, very full-bodied.
D: A really good stout from Newport Beach Brewing Company, my first beer that I have ever had from them, and I am impressed, very well done.

Sample yesterday with my girlfriend, special thirteenth anniversary version of their Dead Cowboy stout, brewed with double the malt and twenty-five pounds of Sumatra coffee, snifters were five dollars
A-Black with not a spec of light shining through the glass, no head, flat as a board, no lacing
S-Coffee and more coffee, roasted barley, smokiness, some dark chocolate, and faint hoppy aroma
T-You guessed it tons of coffee, some super dark chocolate and chewy malt in the middle, dry hoppy and java finish, beer did not change too much as it warmed, not very dimensional because coffee is so overpowering but it is good for what it is, this one packs a serious punch
M-Dry mouthfeel, thick full body, not much carbonation, long lasting taste that seemed to not go away
D-Heavy stuff, not smooth, took me thirty minutes to get through half a small glass, alcohol is hidden but coffee is not, strong
One of my favorite beers tasted today, could barely drink a couple ounces though, recommend getting a four ounce taster glass if you go to try this one, interesting beer and worth checking out
