I love NBBC and Pelican Pale Ale is my go-to there. Being an in-house brew it's pretty good; enough so that I get it almost every time I'm there. It has a decent appearance and smell. The taste is what matters most and I like the bite Pelican has. If I didn't like the taste then I wouldn't get it as often as I do. It's not my favorite beer in the beer realm but I enjoy it when I'm supporting my local brewery. It goes down well and I can drink it during the day, no problem. While I do enjoy trying the non-regular brews at NBBC, you can bet I'll at least have one pint of Pelican as well.

A: The pour is the usual amber color with nice clarity and a sturdy white head. The lacing is somewhat minimal, but is there.
S: Mostly pine and a bit of grassy hops, much less citrus (really none, in fact) than I would expect for a pale ale. A bit of bready malt as well.
T: This one does not really have too much going on. There is a bold flavor, and it's pine. In fact, it's really all you can taste in this beer. Quite bitter, especially for a pale ale, and without really any refreshing qualities.
M: The body is medium with a smooth, medium carbonation and a bitter finish that lingers.
D: I was not really all that impressed with this beer. I would have liked something a bit more citrus forward and balanced.

On-tap at NBBC last night, on to the beer:
Shiny copper color leaving thin rings of lacing to the glass. The aroma and flavor are akin to your classic APA. Diacetyl and a mild grapefuirt hoppiness mix to give this beer the aroma it has, and much of the flavor too. A breath of biscuit malt sticks around in the aftertaste with the husky grapefruit. A shade thinner than I'd like in feel, but overall, this is a solid brewpub pale ale.

Sampled yesterday, seemed to be the beer of choice along with the IPA for many of the patrons sitting at the bar
A-Golden yellow color with a slight tint of orange, small 1/4 inch white creamy head, some retention and lacing
S-Cascade hops, citrus aromas including both lemons and grapefruit, grassy accents, faint malt, and bread
T-Dry and the beginning with some malt in the middle, ended with a hoppy grapefruit flavor, lemon came to the surface after the first few sips, more malt in there than I thought originally, balanced out with the citric hoppiness
M-Chewy and dry mouthfeel, fairly thin body, lots of carbonation, taste did not last
D-Went down easy, not heavy, low ABV at six percent, could drink a few pints no problem
Not a bad pale ale overall, could have used some more hoppiness in my opinion, would drink again if I was there and in the mood for something on the light side, recommended if you are a fan of this beer style

Light to medium golden in color, pours with a slight white foam head, gone quickly. Aroma has some hop presence, and taste starts with nice citrus hop bite. Not a lot of hops, but reasonable for an APA. Decent, compares well with other basic APAs. I would probably order it again in the future, but nothing to make me get another pint in a sitting.

Sampled on the outdoor patio in this sprawling brewpub in Newport Beach Village. This tasty Pale Ale is pure gold with a nice lasting white head. The aroma is mostly fruity with some floral hop and alcohol presence. The medium herbal malt body is smooooth! The high multi-directional hops offer some metallic bite and mild citrus bitterness. Some alcohol kick.
