Notes via stream of consciousness: So what do we have here? A "kettle sour brewed with lactose and fruited with blueberry & boysenberry". Sounds good. I expect it will be pinkish in color but let's see... yep, it's got a nice deep pink head atop a hazy ruby colored body. The aroma has a fruit pulp thing going on but I can't really pick out any specific fruit. I could give you fruits that it's not like (apple, orange, pineapple, grapefruit, etc.) but other than berry or cherry I can't get it any closer. That's OK. It has a light touch of a mineralish note to it, but not much. On to the flavor... well there's a lot more berry there. I'm getting more of the boysenberry but even that's not that clear. It's almost like a red grape flavor. Still, that's OK by me, I like to know what's in a beer but I don't necessarily think it's necessary that everything stand out clearly. Now if it had been coconut and that was missing that might be a little different, but with fruits it's a different story. So, back to the beer itself, it's not that acidic. It's tart but it's not really sour. I find it pleasant and refreshing. The malt is basic and gently sweet, supporting the fruit flavors without distracting. I'm not finding the lactose, which is a good thing. Most people can't taste the lactose, it just adds body, but I can and I'm not fond of it. On that note, it's medium in body, or at least it appears to be, and it has a gentle carbonation. I wish it was a little bit more zesty but that would enhance the acidity so I'm fine with it as it is. What surprises me is that this is 7% because I really don't get that. I could probably drink a few of these in a row at a backyard BBQ, and that could be a problem. It really seems much more tame than it is, I'm guessing because of the fruit. So, looking back, the head held up pretty well at first but then eventually receded completely. That's to be expected from a sour beer so I'm cool with that. It's a bit cloudy which is a distraction, for me anyway, but I'll also give it a pass on that as that's probably from fruit pulp which is helping to give it the thicker mouthfeel that it has. Overall I like it. It's not the greatest sour fruit beer that I've ever had but it's decent enough. Give it a try.
