Double Nickel Brewing Co. "The Big Weekend"
16 fl. oz can coded "06/06/22-11:34:31" and sampled on 12/10/22
$5.29 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: This hazy double IPA is double dry hopped with Idaho 7 and Citra hops. It's a very hazy golden that appears more orangish in the full glass, and large pieces of sediment can be seen in suspension. The head is a finger's width of white foam. I'm getting orange, papaya, and apricot over a sweetish and lightly bready malt base. The flavor is fuller and adds additional notes of ripe lychee, peach, gooseberry, pine, and alcohol. It's not as hoppy as I thought it would be but this sample is over 6 months old. A median bitterness, some light "hop bite", and a spritz of alcohol balance it nicely and it finishes sweetish and fruity with apricot, orange, and soft pine lingering. It's medium bodied but with a fuller feel and smoothness from all of the extra proteins and a soft, fine-bubbled and moderate carbonation level. The head has held up well and I still have a short but creamy cap of foam that covers the entire surface. There's also some very nice lacing going on so this definitely scores a 4.25 out of 5. All told I'm impressed, and I wish I had grabbed this sooner.

It starts with a very nice pour that empties a pint can's contents into a clear glass liter mug. The color of the brew is a light golden amber and it brings a modest off-white head with it. Although brightly hued, it's rather opaque. It can't be said that this is aromatic, but there's a touch of malt, hops and alcohol to be had and it's not bad. To taste, this has a pleasant balance of malt and hops. Neither overly malty sweet, nor hoppy bitter, this just goes down as a pleasant IIPA. Of course, at a 9% ABV there is some alcohol to taste. But it's an asset, not at all detrimental to neither the taste, nor the mouthfeel. This is one well-refined heavy hitter than goes down way too easily for its ABV. Not very hoppy, not too malty and not so good with glass lacing, but this is one of the most drinkable IIPAs you may encounter.
