Very Good
SMaSH GalaxySMaSH Galaxy
Notes: A balanced aroma gives intense passion fruit, light guava, and herbal notes similar to thyme, and hints of exotic citrus. The hop aroma is balanced by light honey notes that are characteristically associated with the malt of a crisp Pilsner. The flavor has an initial rush of tropical fruit and herbal notes that linger intensely. The Galaxy hops take center stage, and after several seconds the juicy hop notes are joined by the very intense bitterness typical of this Australian variety.

Pours an effervescent gold with 3 fingers of bubbly beige head. Below average head retention & lacing

S: Cakeyness and that's about it

T: Cakeyness, pineapple & grapefruit, plus dryness up front. More cakey sweetness as this warms, plus pineapple & dryness. Finishes dry, sweet with a little pineapple cake

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, good balance

A solid DIPA, drinks easy

Pours a clear golden yellow with a long lasting white head. Spotty lacing. Aroma is mild, citrus and pine. Flavor follows the nose but much more forward. Feel is light bodied and moderately carbonated. Overall an okay brew.

Pours out a clear golden amber color, riddled with bubbles trying to escape only to be caught by its dense, off-white frothy head which sticks around for quite a long time and forms a nice ring around the glass.

Apples, mild grapefruit, lemon and orange zest mixed in with some spices and even milder fruity aromas.

Definitely a hop forward beer with some nice strong phenol flavors around the mouth and it feels more intense in the corners of your mouth; this is quickly replaced by some mild fruity esters: think lemon, grapefruit and orange zest followed by mild honey and pine flavors. Sweet on the tip of your tongue and bitter on the sides to put it simply.
This is a medium bodied beer leaning more toward full bodied and finishes with a rather dry phenolic aftertaste.

Great tasting IPA, fun to drink and relax too, I would love to bathe in this IPA!

I was drinking this beer in my backyard on a sunny warm day. It was a few weeks ago, maybe a couple of months but I writing this based on notes I wrote down. Nice art on the label. It has a picture of two colliding galaxies, one green and one purple. You can imagine the milky way and Andromeda colliding.

Look: semi-clear golden with a thick white head. Nice lacing as the foam settles.

Aroma: tropical fruit and pine resin

Flavor: crackers with honey, citrus and tropical fruit, orange, passionfruit, grapefruit, a grapefruit rind and pine resin bitterness at the end that stays a while.

Body/Overall: Light to medium body, IBU 86 (Galaxy hops), delicious

Here we go. A double ipa with 8.5% alcohol that sneaks up on you and before you know it it's bed time. This one is flavorful with lots of mosaic hops and it packs a high ibu. Will review again when more sober and I can really take everything in.

Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of mild tropical fruits. Taste is pine, some herbal notes, little of the fruitiness in the aroma, moderate bitterness. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall it ain't bad, but nothing special either.

-Enjoyed at Henry's Great Alaskan Restaurant in Kodiak, Alaska 2020. On draft.

A: A hazy orange pour arrives in a pint glass accompanied by a rough creamy and frumpy textured head of less then one inch. Rocky head displayed a modest amount of retention as it lined the vessel with a generous amount of lace thickness in the form of multiple rings. Carbonation was light as was on tap.

S: The nose brought forth a big burst of tropical fruit, mostly pineapple and citrus-peach freshness. Mangoes and oranges provide a citrus punch that was fresh and juicy, wet, and generous with a strong awareness factor. Galaxy hops almost always show up nicely on the nose, this is no exception.

T: The flavor showed a bit more dry bittering aspect of the hop usage then the nose. Flowery orange citrus brings a dry grind/peel like aspect, Grassy notes provide a hop bite as well that really warms the tongue up. Damp herbal flowers, tropical fruit along with crisp pilsner malts provide a smooth backbone. Smooth semi-dry orange like flowers coat the tongue as well. Dried honey pine provides a little bite and edginess.

M: Mouthful was smooth, of medium body, a light mention of carbonation.

O: Overall a big wet nose leads to a flowery bittering tropical bite for flavor. Orange peel, grapefruit grind, and all the supporting characteristics of the great Galaxy hop are on full display here. A wet nose leads you in, a big flowery bitterness will finish you off. Great all around, packs a punch and does the Galaxy and Alaskan name proud. Pilsner malt provides the perfect, creamy background. Spicy, bold tropical flavors went well with the fresh cod.

SMaSH Galaxy brewed by Alaskan Brewing Co., With an ABV of 8.50% This IPA Imperial pours out of a 12oz glass bottle into a pint beer glass. The color is a nice deep amber color with a nice white head. There is also a nice amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is Rich with hoppy bitterness mixed with earthy grains and malts. So far SMaSH Galaxy is a nice inviting brew. Now for the taste, it is Bold with flavors, the hops are the first thing you pick up on. Then a nice smoothness from the grains and malts. Nice clean smooth finish. There is nothing overpowering about this imperial IPA, it has a super nice balance to it. The body of this imperial IPA is a soild medium, nothing to heavy or light about it. I can't get over how smooth this brew goes down, it's really hard to pick up on the 8.50% ABV in this brew. The mouth feel of SMaSH Galaxy is Bold, Rich, Hoppy, Clean, Smooth and Refreshing. Overall I am going to give SMaSH Galaxy a 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again givin the opportunity too. Alaskan Brewing Co., Did a super nice job with this imperial IPA.

16oz can. Poured out a clear, golden amber color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left sticky rings of lace on the glass. It smelled of citrus, pine, grapefruit and toasted caramel. Nice piney bitterness with sweet caramel and citrus notes.

Poured from a pint can into a tulip.

Pours medium gold with a decent head that dissipates quickly but gives way to good lacing.

The aromas are simple and straight. Floral hop aroma first blended with clean pale malt.

The brew hits the tip of the tongue with mild pale malt sweetness giving way to earthy and resin hop bitterness in midstream. An unsettling soapy/salty note rises as the brew warms. White pepper and warming alcohol at the finish.

This is a well carbonated and fairly medium bodied DIPA.

The simplicity is refreshing. But there are some odd notes that don't quite work together nonetheless

Look: Cloudy gold with an off-white head that dissipates slowly.

Smell: Hops, light fruits (mango and green grape plus citrus), bready Pilsner

Taste: Crisp Pilsner throughout, tropical fruits and herbs at the start which gives way to hoppy bitterness after swallowing.

Feel: Normal carbonation, medium body, leaves a warm, dry mouthfeel.

Overall: Pretty tasty IPA; perhaps I'm biased as I haven't had a good one in a while, but I enjoyed this brew.

Six pack of bottles purchased at Safeway in Bothell, Washington.
Best by date is 10/19/19. Poured in to a pint glass.

Look- Clear, golden honey colored, nice little dense white head that leaves a good amount of lacing. a bit of carbonation is evident in the glass as it sits.

Smell- Light citrus, white bread/crackery malts, tropicals, melon and green grape and a little berry, lightest pine.

Taste- Much of the same but there's a vanilla sort of maltiness that asserts itself in the finish, pine is almost non-existent.

Feel- Light to medium bodied. Semi-sweet and smooth. a little low on the carbonation.

O- My first time trying this beer, not the best but tasty. Not sure it warrants the higher price tag than their Husky IPA.
Still a solid offering, give it a try.

Look: Clear orange amber with tons of head and lacing. Excellent retention. Visible carbonation, slow rising bubbles.
Smell: Pilsner-like malt and stone fruit tinged with citrus.
Taste: Nicely bitter from front to back.
Flavor: Pilsner like maltiness with a fruitier bitterness than a lot of American hops. There is a fruitiness without the usual pine and citrus medley. There is some citrus in a general way and then there is some stone fruit also. The fruitiness is noticeably different from the non-Galaxy hops that I have been drinking.
Feel: Carbonation is not prickly but is too strong to call it soft. I would call it presence until I find a better word. Clean dry finish.
Overall: A very satisfying beer. I love variety and this beer gave me some things that I have not found in other beers. The pilsner malt and compatible clean bitterness is interesting. The Galaxy hops is fruity in ways that American hops aren’t. It’s kind of like Mosaic in that regard but it goes in a different direction. Where Mosaic heads into berry territory Galaxy heads for stone fruit. If you are looking for something subtly different from the IPA’s you’ve been drinking, try this. Sip it slowly and pay attention to everything. The 8.5% alcohol was a surprise, it doesn't have an alcohol bite. I am getting the bottom of my glass and as it warms new things are coming out. I am going to have get more and investigate this more thoroughly.

12 oz. bottle - Best by 10/19/19:

Pours yellow with a creamy white head. Trailing lace sticks.

The smell is of peach, passionfruit, citrus, herbal notes. Galaxy hops stand out.

The taste is of peach, passionfruit, citrus, herbal notes. Lemon (and pine?) in the finish. Sweet, bready, honey mixes in. Peppery alcohol shows. (On the fence about the score, even after two spread out - will give it the higher of the scores.)

Lighter than expected for style and abv, but it holds together and works well.

There is a honey-like sweetness that makes the IBU's seem a bit lower than 86. Still there is a bitter hop kick to it. Hoppy, malty, somewhat boozy, it's an interesting brew that showcases the Galaxy hops well.

Smells slightly sweet, ascerbic, malty on the back side. Taste is sweet lightly lemon and citrus, faint mango and cherry. Body is medium with small creamy mouthfeel. Overall is slightly sweet throughout unfortunately a bit cloying on the finish.

Smash Galaxy pours a copper color, with a nice sized, long lasting and lacing head. Mellow, but sweet, and hoppy aroma. Flavor is a little tangy, nice creamy backbone, with a nice subtle hop mixed, nice warm alcohol. Good body and feel. Overall, very flavorful, yet simple.
