Very Good
SMaSH GalaxySMaSH Galaxy
Notes: A balanced aroma gives intense passion fruit, light guava, and herbal notes similar to thyme, and hints of exotic citrus. The hop aroma is balanced by light honey notes that are characteristically associated with the malt of a crisp Pilsner. The flavor has an initial rush of tropical fruit and herbal notes that linger intensely. The Galaxy hops take center stage, and after several seconds the juicy hop notes are joined by the very intense bitterness typical of this Australian variety.

Six pack of bottles purchased at Safeway in Bothell, Washington.
Best by date is 10/19/19. Poured in to a pint glass.

Look- Clear, golden honey colored, nice little dense white head that leaves a good amount of lacing. a bit of carbonation is evident in the glass as it sits.

Smell- Light citrus, white bread/crackery malts, tropicals, melon and green grape and a little berry, lightest pine.

Taste- Much of the same but there's a vanilla sort of maltiness that asserts itself in the finish, pine is almost non-existent.

Feel- Light to medium bodied. Semi-sweet and smooth. a little low on the carbonation.

O- My first time trying this beer, not the best but tasty. Not sure it warrants the higher price tag than their Husky IPA.
Still a solid offering, give it a try.

12 oz. bottle - Best by 10/19/19:

Pours yellow with a creamy white head. Trailing lace sticks.

The smell is of peach, passionfruit, citrus, herbal notes. Galaxy hops stand out.

The taste is of peach, passionfruit, citrus, herbal notes. Lemon (and pine?) in the finish. Sweet, bready, honey mixes in. Peppery alcohol shows. (On the fence about the score, even after two spread out - will give it the higher of the scores.)

Lighter than expected for style and abv, but it holds together and works well.

There is a honey-like sweetness that makes the IBU's seem a bit lower than 86. Still there is a bitter hop kick to it. Hoppy, malty, somewhat boozy, it's an interesting brew that showcases the Galaxy hops well.

Alaskan Smash Galaxy
Smells slightly sweet, ascerbic, malty on the back side. Taste is sweet lightly lemon and citrus, faint mango and cherry. Body is medium with small creamy mouthfeel. Overall is slightly sweet throughout unfortunately a bit cloying on the finish.

Smash Galaxy pours a copper color, with a nice sized, long lasting and lacing head. Mellow, but sweet, and hoppy aroma. Flavor is a little tangy, nice creamy backbone, with a nice subtle hop mixed, nice warm alcohol. Good body and feel. Overall, very flavorful, yet simple.

Smell is a very sweet honey/cantaloupe.
Taste is mildly sweet at first with notes of tropical fruit, and turns into a spicy and piney flavor.
Interesting, but not my favorite.

Wow, I like this one! A sweet nose and taste, almost a honey note to it. Not super-aggressive and certainly not in-your-face alcohol for an 8.5. I was expecting another run of the mill "double-ish IPA" but this has a pretty unique taste to me. I really like Alaskan's other offerings but this was a surprise. Hoppy but not grassy.

Pours a clear gold color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Decent retention and great lacing. Smells of spicy hops, citrus hops, slight floral hops, alcohol, slight sweet malt, and slight earthiness. Fits the style of an American Imperial IPA. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is a noticeable bitterness. Tastes of spicy hops, citrus hops, slight floral hops, alcohol, slight sweet malt, and slight earthiness. Overall, good appearance, aroma, body, and blend.

22oz bottle best by 110818. Served in a mug. Pale straw yellow with a bit of turbidity. Aroma is fruity and sweet, maybe peaches, or apricot. Flavor is tropical and hoppy but extremely well balanced and surprisingly non-bitter for a DIPA from Alaskan. That is to say, this is a lot better than I expect. BA says "intense bitterness typical of this variety" and the label says 86 IBU but I find it not at all intense.

Clear golden with red body. Great white head and solid lacing.

Flavors are vaguely fruity, followed by malty bitterness. Very moderate carbonation.

Flavor wise it’s good, but mostly I’m into it for the exposition of singular elements.

Appearance - The beer pours a clear golden amber color with a big head of white foam. The head has a great level of retention fading slowly over time to leave a fantastic level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell- The aroma is huge of tropical fruits with tons of papaya, pineapple, and tangerine. There is also a great deal of bready grain and grass mixed with herb. There is also a good hit of a boozy smell which creates a delisious, warming smell overall.
Taste - The taste begins with a slightly bready taste that has tons of tropical fruits of papaya, mango, tangerine, and pineapple with a good hit of lime as well. As theaster moves forward these flavors remain strong overall, just losing a little ground. With these light flavor transitions comes some tastes of more citrus and heal hops as well as a rather strong showing of some warming booze taste. In the end one is left with a warming and slightly hot, but flavorful taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel - The body of the brew is slightly lighter for the abv with a carbonation level that is rather normal. For the mix of sweet, booze, and hop the feel is great and makes for a great drinking medium.
Overall - I sorta like this. A bit warming with the boozy tastes, but great tastes overall. A nice sipper!!

Golden pour, high foam head. Very light carbonation in appearance. Lacing sticks well.
Smells malty/ bacon-like somehow.
Taste: I love the Pilsner malts, but this is a sweet concoction. Some bright/ freshly tropical pineapple notes are in there, with a bit of grapefruit. Peppery, syrupy, medium and smooth carbonation feel.
After sipping through this, I do like it more than in my initial impression, where it came off as almost overly sweet.
Well-rounded smash.

Pretty complex and flavorful, a tangy, sweet grapefruit. And then out with a bitter, earthy, and dry metallic finish (in a good way) . Reminds me of a mellower Space Dust even though it still packs a punch. Recommended !

A medium pale yellow-orange/gold, with two finger head of bubbles medium. Lacing present.
A grassy, mouth-watering floral-fruit fragrance, most delicious!
Following the nose: crisp, malty-caramel.
Elegant mid-taste of creamy grapefruit goodness, an earthy booze-tang crush.
Love it, however beware: a lingering, quite dry citrus sensation upon the tongue.

Pours hazy gold with a slight haze, rapidly rising bubbles. Aromas are melon, citrus, tropical fruit, light grass and light grains. Flavor starts rich and creamy flavored by melon and tropical fruit, light citrus, and light grainy malts. Ther is a faint initial hint of onion to celery that quickly fades. The hop flavors and biterness are medium high, strong and complex, but not harsh. Medium to high carbonation, but a light body.

Bottle from Albertsons. Hazy golden, small bubbly head. Aroma is caramel, earthy. Taste too features mild sweetness, floral notes, grassy, then a soft bitter bite. Nice texture too.

Clear golden yellow color with plenty of foam in the Maredsous goblet. Really aromatic in a fruity but distinctive way. Citrus and tangerine peel taste with honeydew melon in the nose. Galaxy tastes to me very spicy with an astringent woody note in the finish.

Sweet and earthy. Overall this is quite intense. After the citrus peel flavor it grows more bitter in the aftertaste. A tangy and interesting big IPA. From the 12 oz bottle purchased in northern Washington.

The beer pours out a light hazy golden color, with 1 finger of white head------------- the aromas are of papaya, lime, grapefruit, orange and pine-------------- the flavors are of bitter pine, biscuits, orange, grapefruit, lime, lesser peach syrup and grass/floral, the beer has a thin mouthfeel with a overly bitter finish---------------- overall this was better than expected based on my experiences with Alaskan brewing ipa's, the flavors were nice only flaws were the thin mouthfeel and overly bitter finish

I got this off the single shelf at Binnys. It poured a clear golden with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent had hints of tropical citrus. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet citrus and malt. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a decent beer.

Brilliant gold color with a very tall rocky head of 2 fingers. Lots of beautiful lace up the sides.

Galaxy aroma is apparent - nice melon, grapefruit, elderflower, lemon, and grapefruit aromas. Slight peppery presence. Nice pale/caramel malt bill as well.

Heavy malt flavors, a striking contrast from the other Galaxy pale ale I had from Backpocket before this. Malt is bringing forth flavors of honey, biscuit, and caramel. Second strongest is the alcohol/ethanol. Way too much kettle bittering. Hop flavors are more subdued, dare I say the Galaxy hop is not showcased as well as it could be - perhaps no dry hopping techniques were employed. Some grassy pine, ethanol, stiff woody cantaloupe, light apple, grapefruit and citrus peel. Slight earthiness. Slight pepper. Quite bitter.

Feel is resiny and medium bodied, medium carbonation, oily finish.

Overall, the Galaxy hop is an amazing hop - one of my favorites in fact. Unfortunately Alaskan has not got it down to a science yet (not that it's even that hard to begin with). Being a Single malt (Pilsner malt, no less?), single hop, I assume the bittering was quite a lengthy procedure, as the stickiness is present, and a few kettle hop additions, and no dry hop. Glad I was able to try it as a single instead of a 4 pack.

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into a standard pint glass. Appearance leaves nothing wanting. Clear, pale golden color, with an aggressive pour yielding a three-finger soapy white head that left a ton of sticky lacing as it receded to a thin cap. Such a beautiful pour means good things to follow, right? In this case it does. A good malt backbone provides body and structure without getting in the way of the hops. Aromas and flavors evoke tropical fruit and citrus that eventually give way to a floral finish with lots of intense bitterness. The alcohol presence is extremely well hidden. Overall, this is an outstanding, easy-drinking, and flavorful beer that would pair well with a variety of foods. Well done!

12oz bottle, best by 070418. Deep golden color with a frothy off-white head. Aroma is floral and earthy hops, some modest grain and a bit metallic. Earthy, floral, and herbal hop flavors that try to be fruity but struggle; giving off some odd peach and apricot notes; very light caramel malt and grain. Fuller body, modest carbonation, finishing pungently bitter with earthy, grassy, herbal hops lingering. Not what I expected with this one. I was hoping for more of the tropical & lemon-limey Galaxy hop notes I'm used to, and this didn't seem to have it.

Look: lighter color for an IPA, light amber. Poured from a tap into a 16 standard pint. < 1” head that dicipated but kept the carbonation
Smell: light hop smell. Nothing overpowering
Taste: not too hoppy for a double ipa. But still has that sweet DIPA/IIPA taste
Feel: pretty smooth, you feel the sweetness but it doesn’t linger

Overall: good dIPA. Supposedly they use the same Australian “galaxy hops” that space dust uses... space... galaxy... i get it now.

I used to be an Alaska fan, but after this I’m impressed, I’d drink it again

Best by 7/4/18. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours golden with nice clarity and has bubbles racing upwards; fluffy eggshell white head that slowly falls leaving great retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are floral along with some hints of bread and crackers. Mild blend of citrus and tropical fruits in the background. Malts are there. The flavors are clean, crisp, sharp and refreshing. Moderate bitterness. Malts do their thing. Finishes dry. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is nice. It's medium to full-bodied with active carbonation. It's very smooth and dangerously drinkable.

This is a solid DIPA. The galaxy hops might not be super intense or pungent, but it's still an enjoyable brew. Once again, it's clean, crisp, sharp and refreshing. It's fun to drink.

L-Clear gold color...little head

S-Sweetish peach, passion fruit like aroma...some booziness

T-Sharp and alcohol laden...malt adds nothing to the flavor and doesn't stand up to the ABV..some light peach notes but nothing impressive about the flavor. Really not a lot of flavor.

F-Too alcohol forward with not enough malt backbone. Hops are overshadowed by the sharpness of the alcohol.

O-This is my fifth bottle of this and I keep wanting to like it but my impression has remained the same thoughout the four bottles. Below average DIPA..
