Chocolate Cake Stout

its been some time since i had a new beer from these guys, cool to find this on tap, i guess they have a little more alaskan brewing on offer in alaska than they do i much of the lower 48, makes sense. this is interesting, very strong, and very sweet and desserty, but also real well done. the chocolate element is great in this shiny near black brew, dark bitter baking chocolate along with richer almost brownie batter type fudge chocolate, bold but authentic to me, with some light smoke, a coffee note, and some balancing roasted depth as well, warming alcohol in the nose too, wintery and inviting. the flavor has chocolate all thought it, almost a liquid chocolate added intensity to me, definitely hits the cake part too, with some brown sugar type character behind it, delicious. long on the palate and definitely sweet, but not diabetic either. notes of tobacco, raisin, and good espresso in the mix, light on the carbonation but thats fine in a beer like this most of the time, the aftertaste is pleasant and even has some bitterness there with it. light licorice as it warms, a rum note but i dont think this saw any barrel time. a little out of character for these guys maybe, but the chocolate aspect is delicious and the base stout supports it pretty well. cool draft find while i was up in alaska! need to hit the brewery next time!
