Pour is a deep, dark, opaque black. Surprisingly lively for its strength and with a wonderfully large and retentive head.
Aroma is coffee and cured meat. A few more sniffs and it gets richer: nutty malt, pleasant peat.
The flavor is gangbusters. Charred grain, coffee, and barely upfront, a mildly spicy bittersour middle, and then some dry, lingering hops on the back end. Deliciously bitter and quenching.
I wasn't floored by their quad but the impy stout really nails the style.
