i dont know that i would pick this one over either the zinfandel or the malbec editions that i have had in the past, but it was amazing to reacquainted with this series and to score this on tap, really solid stuff, again a reminder of how good these guys are with their wild stuff, the base beer here drinks like imperial lambic, a little fuller, a little stronger, but totally spontaneous to me in the ferment, not sure how its made, but it presents like that, minerals and iodine and citrusy tang and musty old wet brett, farmy and funky but dry, wheaty at its core it seems, and woody and old, amazing, and it sets up the fruit really well. the grapes are tart, more fruity than wine-like to me, even though the base beer is this tart and mature, its juicy, with hints of meyer lemon, pear, and lime, as well as all kinds of minerals, slate and graphite and all, its awesome with the brett profile, and it gets more lambic-esque as it warms. i like it being a little bigger, it keeps the piquant acidity from making this thin, and i like the way i can still taste the grain. very mature, wonderful ferment, cool use of the fruit, plenty of grape character all through this. i think the red grape versions were a little more dynamic even than this, more sweetness and so a longer flavor trip, but this is wonderful. i need to track down the rest of them in this series. beachwood is doing some incredible things right now, to me they are one of the best in the country in these wild styles, and frankly they still seem unsung for how great these have all been...
