V: Yet another place crammed into a strip mall, albeit a nice strip mall. It's not an overly big place, but they make good use of the space. It has a bar, a solid amount of seating on the floor, and a nice patio (for when the weather doesn't suck). It's kind of a horse theme (horseshoes are everywhere). Overall, it's a cozy, likable vibe.

Q: As far as I could tell, they had a high level of quality here; nothing stale or out of date.

S: The service was very friendly and seemed to know a bit about their products.

S: A solid array of stuff: A couple of IPAs, a saison, some stouts and porters, a pilsner, an APA, and a pair of DIPAs. There's nothing overly adventurous, but a good range of styles nonetheless.

When the owner isn't being a blacksmith, he's a brewer -hence the name as in loose horse shoes.

Inside, the Loose Shoe feels like a local pub where the bar tender, often the brewer or his wife, offer conversation and popcorn along with the beer brewed at the far end of the building.

I'd stop in, when I back in town.

Visited on 10 June 2016. Had a half pint only as I had driving to do later.

A recent addition to Virginia's growing craft beer scene. The location is a small-town strip mall, so the overall vibe could be stronger, but the friendly proprietor and happy locals were certainly welcoming. Six beers were on tap, which might seem a little low, but I think it's all they have to offer. Outside food is welcomed, and a four-some at a table near me ordered pizza from a nearby place while I was there (there's Mexican available just down the way also). The beer I had (a rye IPA) was good if not exquisite. Definitely worth keeping an eye on, and re-visiting to sample more beers. There's an outdoor patio (with two hops bines in pots) that provides outside seating option, though the traffic noise there is a drawback.

Brand new, and needs a lot of work. But not much negative to say because while there are lots of improvements to be made, this is Amherst VA we're talking about, there is no bar, so it will only be raised. Cheers
