weird and funky taste, like a fake coconut addition? or some other 'added' flavor that's giving the chemical-like bitterness...?

$ 12.70 (Including shipping)/22 oz bottle ($ 0.577/oz) from Tavour, Seattle, WA. Reviewed 6/6/19.
Undated bottle. Stored at 42 degrees and served at 47 degrees in a hand-washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Medium brown, clear.
Body – Dark brown, opaque. When held to the light, there is slight penetration at the crown.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.5 cm, aggressive center pour), tan, dense with frothy top, average duration, diminishing to a scalloped three to five mm crown and a rocky cap.
Lacing – Good. Wide bands of extremely tiny to small bubbles, connected by thin columns.
Aroma – 3.75 – Weak roasted malt followed by cocoa with coconut coming up behind.
Flavor – 3.75 – Begins slightly bitter with weak cocoa and coconut predominating. None of the advertised coffee flavor is found. No alcohol (7.2% ABV) flavor, no dimethylsulfide, no diacetyl.
Palate – 3 – Thin, watery, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation – 3.5 - (-0.25 point for having an undated individual serving container.) As pleasing as it is to finally find a brew in which I can both taste and smell the advertised coconut as well as the cocoa, the thin body detracts from the drinking pleasure.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a half finger dark khaki head that dissipates to a fine, thick cap that lasts for a while, with light lacing. Aroma of lightly sweet dark toasted malt, lots of coconut and a hint of chocolate. Flavor is dark toasted malt with just a touch of char, light milk chocolate and lots of coconut; a little coffee in the finish. Light to medium bodied with mild creaminess. Coconut is the king in this porter; it is almost tropical in taste. The malt is not that robust, but does support the coconut and light chocolate flavors quite nicely. Some good Mounds bar action here, although not all that sweet. Delivers what it promises.

Dark, thick, and roasty. The coconut is strong on the nose, but not overpowering on the tongue. The porter aspect shines through, with the coconut accenting it. Works well together. I enjoyed it.
