12 oz bottle from Tavour. Pours out of slick, oily black. Little to no head. Aroma is straightforward with the roast grains and not a hint of the booze. Taste also features the roasty malts, a little bit of brown sugar sweetness and the heat rises up in the back. No adjuncts, no flavorings, straight-up Stout. Tasty too.

For 17% alcohol is very well hidden. To me this beer tastes more like a black IPA than a stout. Has some roasted flavors but it heavily hopped. Would drink again, not sure how it would age

$ 10.49 (Including shipping)/12 oz bottle ($ 0.874/oz) from Tavour, Seattle, WA. Reviewed 5/10/19.
“BOTTLED ON” on the back of the label with a plain white sticker marked “03/11/19” stuck beneath it. Stored at 42 degrees and served at 57 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Dark brown, translucent.
Body – Dark brown/black, opaque. When held to the light, still opaque.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.5 cm, aggressive center pour), khaki, medium density, average retention, diminishing to three to four mm crown and a rocky partial cap.
Lacing – Poor. Just a single prominence arcs above the crown.
Aroma – 3.25 – Roasted malt, very weak sweet dates. Post-swallow exhale is strictly alcohol.
Flavor – 3.5 – Begins with roasted malt immediately followed by alcohol. The alcohol increases in intensity and burns all the way down to where it napes the stomach. There is only a trace of bitterness, much less than the advertised 136 IBU. No dimethylsulfide, no diacetyl.
Palate – 3.5 – Full, almost creamy, lively carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 3 - Basically, an alcohol bomb. Mercifully, the first couple of swallows overload the alcohol receptors after which it is just a weak, slightly bitter, roasted malt drink.

Bottle from Tavour.
Inky black in color with a thin tan head that slowly dissipates. Rich roasty chocolate with lots of dark dried fruits and a hint of alcohol. I poured this and drank it down in no time flat, that alcohol is incredibly well hidden. I wish I'd bought more!

First off, this beer must be warmed to ~ 50° or more. Otherwise, it's flavors are masked, and the mild bitterness will come through disproportionately stronger than it should.

Appearance is dark cola. Small fine head with fine lacing from 8oz. tap pour.

Smells like an ordinary stout, but taste has equal parts of sweet, bitter, ester.

I'll follow up to edit this with more detail next time I'm here. I might also try a bottle.
