We've been having a lot of fun (and success) playing in the large ABV arena. This beer "5X Red" is the next step in our arms race of intense yet smooth sipping beers showing the world how drinkable a BIG beer can be.

Not for the faint of heart, this enticingly complex yet too easily drinkable beer features notes of candied citrus, black cherries, red wine, and hints of crème brûlée.

Dark ruby colors, minimal head and lacing. Mildly hoppy, malty scents with a slight dark fruit presence. Malty, tangy, slightly bitter hop presence on the taste. Bit of sweet dark fruit and red wine notes. The alcohol is subtly disguised and then hits you from behind. Crisp, refreshing, mouth watering finish. These guys know how to make big beers while still keeping them tasty.

12oz can from Tavour. Dark amber pour with a tight cap of creamy tan head. Malty aroma, pit fruit, sweet, maple. Taste comes in with a nice toasty maltiness, light sweetness, toffee. Creamy feel, apparent ABV. Exceptionally smooth for such a monstrous ABV.

A: The beer is somewhat hazy dark reddish amber in color and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high beige colored head that died down but never completely faded away.
S: Moderate aromas of caramel malts and cherry-flavored candy are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell except that it has underlying notes of citrusy hops that contribute a slight amount of bitterness but mostly serve to cancel out any malty sweetness. There are slight hints of alcohol towards the finish.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. This beer was lighter in body compared to what I would have expected for something of this strength.
O: You can definitely tell that this beer is strong given its candy-like aromas but it does a rather good job at hiding most of the alcohol from the taste, although it creeps in some more as it warms up.
