This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a copper with just a tad of clearness to it to allow some light streams of carbonation rising. There was a nice lumpy foamy white one finger head that sustains for a good two minutes before gently concaving to leave some semi-thick lacing. The smell, I’m not sure where I’m getting this and I don’t think this is intentional but every time I smell this there’s a light intriguing blackberry aroma in the front. As it warms, caramel malts start to take over, still some light pine hops help to balance. The taste is bitter and just a tad sweet with some citrus fruit to balance. There’s no blackberry in the flavor but I’m okay with that. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium with a fair sessionability about it. The carbonation is there and good for the style and just enough harshness for me. Overall, if BridgePort intentionally put in the blackberry, right on! If not, well, this was good anyways and would be one I'd want again.

Pours into a nonic a hazed copper copper with a half finger slight off white head atop.Resiny and slightly citric hops in the nose,a sugary sweetness is prevalent as well, just a big sweetness. Some earthy and resinous hops upfront on the palate with the sugary sweetness coming late and making it almost to sweet in the finish. The hops are nice...but just for a minute than the sweetness takes over.

I like the balance of this beer. It has that kick-in-the-pants citrusy hops start that you get from an IPA. But it doesn't have the skunky after tones that some over-reaching hops-for-hops-sake IPAs have. Watch out for the ABV on this one

The moment I put my nose to the taster glass, I knew this was not going to be a favorite. And when I took the initial quaf, I almost spit it out.

Sorry, BridgePort, I don't have many positive things to say about this beer, other than the carbonation was nice.

This is a medium-gold colored beer. The head forms and fades pretty quickly. Nose is nice--very floral and flowery, an unusual hop aroma. Flavor offers moderate bitterness up front, less than the normal hop czar I think, with grassy, floral, fruity hop flavor. Malt doesn't contribute much sweetness but it's still a component of the flavor. Finishes dry with lingering hoppiness.

12 oz bottle poured into an Imperial pint.
6.5% ABV

A - As the name suggests, this IPA is deep copper in color but maintains exceptional clarity beneath the long-lasting, lumpy off-white foam. Chunky lacing clings to the glass to seal the deal on a beautiful beer!

S - Rich hoppy and maltiness combine for a powerful and balanced aroma leading with grassy, slightly spicy hops that impart faint citrus and balled melon trail on the finish. Sweet caramel and bready malts have a slight touch of toast to compliment the earthy hops but all balance very well!

T - Lightly toasted, thickly sliced wheat bread lacks sweetness, mainly from the powerful display of earthy hops that cover the tongue with grass and spiciness, lingering through the bitter finish.

M - A load of smooth maltiness leads into a soft feel that's lightly peppered with carbonation bubbles before the strong bitterness creeps up on the finish. This version of Hop Czar leaves a lasting impression on the tongue; great bitterness from this IPA!

O - The bold dry-hopped aroma coming from Bridgeport's Topaz Copper Hop Czar variation is a big statement of luscious hops but the balanced and fresh nose doesn't quite hold up it's end of the bargain in flavor. Tasty but bitter-focused and less hop-centric, it's smooth body leaves a lingering profile on the tongue that's not quite what's expected from the nose but delicious nonetheless.

Appearance - Pours a clear, bright burnt orange with a sandstone colored finger width head. Fair retention, resulting in a broken layer of surface suds and a fair ring around the edge of the glass. Lacing is small and spotty, with good stick.

Smell - Notes of earth and citrus at the forefront, with light floral character sitting beneath.

Taste - Starts with some floral notes and lightly toasted breadiness, then moves quickly into a citrus bonanza; orange juiciness and some fair grapefruit bitterness that rides into a light black pepper spice and citrus pith finish. Well-layered and cohesive flavor profile. very nice!

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with good carbonation. Smooth, silky drink that's entirely approachable.

Overall - Mmmm. Maybe the best Bridgeport brew I've had to date. Silky smooth and with great flavor. Yes, I could stand to drink another, please... like now!

12oz bottle picked up at the COOP last week.. Poured tonight into my slim tulip... slightly hazy light copper brew.. plenty of small bubble carbonation.. off white head sticks around forever... perfect lacing.

Right off the bat, I get what I consider too much maltiness... too much caramel and dry toast mute what is supposed to be a hop experiment.. That said, the hops are present as melon and other tropical fruitiness and something that makes me think of cut hay.

Bitterness is spot-on... quickly melts into the malts which gives way to a bigger tropical fruit hoppiness.. lighter body compliments the drinkablility.. okay beer, nothing I will probably seek out again and again, but I appreciate it.

12 oz bottle bought from Roths Sunnyslope Market in S.Salem OR. $1.50 Pours a clear copper colour with a nice thick ,rocky and fothy cream coloured head. Very nice strong hop aromas, mainly citrus , floral. With a touch of resin. . Nice caramel malt aspect to the aroma also.. Taste is more resinous and weirdly bitter, like the stone from a plum.NOt much of the expected caramel. Disjointed really.. palate is rather thin and finished weakly. Never saw such a beer that looked and smelled good then fell flat on its face. Had expected more since Bridgeport have been improving as of late.
